Top 10 handhelds that didn't make it

Gamespy published a top 10 list of handhelds that never made it. Fortunately, the Zodiac isn't listed, while the N-Gage, GP32 and others are. The list is a nice read for those interested in the history of handheldgaming.

The Zodiac does appear though in a top 10 list that seems to be the opposite: Zodiac2 is listed number one in CNET's Top 10 Must-Haves!

Tapwave gets Eidos as a game-developer for the Zodiac

Thanks to Zodiac Gamer, we know now that Eidos is developing a new game for the Zodiac. On the list with future games, a new title has been announced. They give no details, but Eidos is a well known game-developers. For example: Tomb Raider, Deus Ex and Timesplitters were developed by them.

This is a good thing for Tapwave and the Zodiac, hopefully they can get more good game-developers like this!

Phantom Strike video

There's a trailer of Crimson's Fire Phantom Strike available for download. This Zodiac exclusive 3D fighter can also now be pre-ordered with a 15% discount. This also applies to internation owners!

The video looks very promising. The motion seems to be a bit smoother than the earlier released Galactic Realms. (for which a fix will be released later this week)

Phantom Strike will be available from late february.

HHG Exclusive: Extreme AI reveals future games

Shortly after HHG mentioned Firefly as a possible future Zodiac game, Bill Klein and Toby Fuentes from Extreme AI revealed some facts to HHG - and mentioned two other, yet unknown Zodiac exclusive games!

"Extreme AI is currently building software exclusively for Zodiac. We may expand to other high-end platforms in the future, but we do not currently have a development effort underway targeting anything but Zodiac. We will be releasing 3 titles between now and May. "

Firefly

Toby Fuentes: "Firefly for the Zodiac was built to closely resemble the PC version, including 3D graphics via X-Forge. We have made some modifications to the original in order to enhance the game experience on the Zodiac version, but in general the game is the same. The stylus is only used to navigate on-screen menus. For everything else, you will need to use the joystick or the 4-button digital pad. "

Bill Klein: "We felt that this game would make a great port for a handheld, and would be a nice way to show off some of the 3D features of the Zodiac. The title is currently being released to Tapwave Compliance Testing, and should be available from the Tapwave store within a couple of weeks."

Orbz

"Our second title is a port of Orbz from 21-6 productions. Orbz is a great multi-player 3D title that we expect to be a big hit on the Zodiac. We are planning to release Orbz in conjunction with GDC in March. You will notice from the 21-6 website that Orbz recently made PC Magazine's Top 25 games of the year, with a 5 out of 5 rating!"

Think Tanks

"Our third title is a Zodiac port of Think Tanks from BraveTree Productions and www.planetthinktanks.com. Think Tanks is another fantastic 3D title, which we have scheduled to launch in the May timeframe."

Three promising titles that offer, next to what seems to be good good gameplay, some fantastic looking 3D graphics. Unfortunately there is an issue for us international Zodiac owners:

"As we expand our presence, we will absolutely want to make games available internationally. In the very short term, however, we will only be selling through the online store."

There are demo's available of all of the original games - go check them out
