First PSP footage
On several sites a short video is presented showing the very first PSP footage of game called Death,jr. It looks quite promising, but i personally believe the same result could be achieved if only a smart developer would take full advantage of the Zodiac, perhaps by using the upgraded X-Forge engine, 2.0.

X-Forge 2
Vasara suprised us earlier by releasing two amazing screenshots of the Gametrac and Zodiac title Speedgun Stadium. Fathammer tells us that their current X-Forge engine has been upgraded to X-Forge2. The highly improved screenshots of SCE show that, although the polycount seems to be the same, there are more detailed textures and cool lightning effects. Possibly the performance (fps) could be improved as well.
It looks like the Zodiac will profit from this as well, since it's mentioned as a supported platform. Hopefully the yet unknown upcoming "big titles" will be running on the new engine, taking the quality of 3D gaming to a new level.
It's yet unknown if there willl be an upgraded version of SCE.

Frodo discontinued, followed up by by Calm64
The Frodo C64 emulator project that we recently reviewed seems to have ended after it's creator, Johan Forsberg, mysteriously dissapeared from the scene, and he hasn't been seen since.
Fortunately for the c64 fans, a new palm c64 emulator is coming and it's called Calm64. It's still in the early stages of planning, but at least there's hope for a new, perhaps once Zodiac-enhanced, c64 emu!

Tapland reports Tapwave Usergroup Meeting
Tapland wrote an extensive report about yesterday's held Tapwave Usergroup Meeting. Along with the users some Tapwave employees showed up, amongst them founder Byron Connell. Bill Klein and Toby Fuentez from Extreme AI were also there, showing off an alphaversion of Orbz.
Some of the reports' highlights:
- Doom II was shown, and is coming out soon. It resembles the original pc version (so it's blocky)
- Duke Nukem was shown and seems to be an exciting 3D FPS version
- Two yet unknown new Activision titles are being developed
- Tapwave will start to offer demo's in their store, which will get a new infratructure soon.
- The ROM update will come out end of March
- The SDK update offers better implementation of Yamaha's soundchip so better results can be established
- Tapwave will go retail somewhere in June. This will be the "2nd edition"with a new protection flap and no flashable rom.
And last but not least; Tapwave revealed an Easter Egg nobody has found yet. (thanks to OCS)
1. enable the easter egg in the preferences (as with the Whack-a-Mole)
2. While in the launcher screen, hold the two action triggers down and -- using your third hand -- tap with stylus on the "sound" icon in the toolbar.
3. Enjoy!

Duke Nukem Mobile Mayhem confirmed 3D FPS
On the first Tapwave User Group meeting, held yesterday in sunny California, Tapwave showed an alpha version of Duke Nukem Mobile Mayhem. One of the visitors, Kevdo wrote on ZG's forums:
"Let me tell you that it is a first person shooter. Moreover, the graphics look great (not blocky like Doom II). The framerates were very very high and it looked smooth."
We hope to get more news about the user meeting.

The N-Gage 2 will will be smaller and thinner than its predecessor, which is 5.25 inches wide, 2.75 inches high, and .8 inches thick"

Orbz Screenshots
Bill Klein from ExtremeAI has been so kind to send us 3 screenshots from the upcoming X-Forge based Zodiac game Orbz. This title, currently only available on the PC platform, is ExtremeAI's 2nd title in a row of three; others are the recently released Firefly and the future title ThinkTanks.
Orbz is about shooting balls at a target in several huge 3D settings and turns out to be an excellent, addictive game on the PC. Judging from the Zodiac screenshots, the Zodiac version turns out to be very similar, and quite promising too!
Orbz should be available within a few weeks.
